Denture stabilisation

November 27, 2017

Many people lose all their teeth due to a variety of reasons; rampant decay, gum disease, trauma and genetics can all play a role.

So, you’ve lost teeth and have replaced them with dentures; but how’s your chewing ability? Are your dentures moving around despite the adhesive you use to keep them solidly in place? The solution is denture stabilisation with dental implants at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic, restoring your ability to chew, talk and smile with confidence.

denture-stabilisation1.jpgA dental implant comprises a small titanium screw that is inserted in your jaw bone, to which your denture is attached. To secure a lower denture that moves, we usually place two dental implants at the front of the lower jaw; fewer people struggle with an upper denture that moves, but if this is the case then we generally place three to four dental implants. We use special connectors to securely attach each implant to your denture.

Your denture can still be removed for cleaning, but you can be confident that when your denture is attached in place it will remain secure and will not suddenly dislodge. You will no longer need to use any messy denture adhesive.

It’s time to smile again

Many people with dentures adjust their diet to cope with a denture that moves when they chew. Once your dentures are stabilised with dental implants, you should be able to chew with confidence and regain the enjoyment of eating a wide range of food.

You will also enjoy a natural-looking smile, improved confidence and the knowledge that you do not have to take your denture out at night.

Amazingly, you will be able to smile again without having to cover your mouth.

The benefits of denture stabilisation with dental implants

Over time, as you wear a traditional denture, you will lose the bony structure that supports your soft tissues. Because your soft tissue actually makes contact with your dentures, this too will start to recede with the bone.

This leaves you in a constant state of adjustment, discomfort and difficulty with everyday functions like speaking, chewing and especially smiling. That’s where implant-supported dentures in Farnham can help.

They can provide tremendous support and fixation, so you can comfortably speak, chew and smile. As well as this, dental implants also maintain support to your neighbouring teeth, keeping them strong and healthy. They will keep your upper and lower jawbone from receding, which prevents facial shape changes such as a ‘shrunken’ look.

Implant supported dentures in Farnham will also provide the perfect option for our patients with dentures who do not want to go through the expense required for individual tooth implants.

After having your implants placed, your dentures will be adjusted to attach to the implants for the perfect fit. Even our patients with some bone loss can benefit from implant-supported dentures.
