Nervous patients
Don’t let your nerves stop you getting the dental care you need...
Many people feel anxious or even afraid of visiting the dentist and for some this can prevent them from having routine check-ups for many years.
When they finally go to the dentist, driven by pain, or embarrassment over the appearance of their teeth, the treatment needed is often much more lengthy and involved, because they’ve been ignoring simple problems.
If you haven’t been to the dentist for a while you’ll probably be surprised by the advances in pain relief and dental techniques since your last visit. We can offer nervous patients:
- A calm and soothing environment
- More time with the dentist to discuss your concerns
- Various kinds of sedation, that will leave you comfortable, drowsy and unaware of your treatment
- Topical gum numbing gel, to minimise the discomfort of injections
- A comfort menu, offering blankets, DVD glasses or your choice of music to provide the perfect distraction
- A treatment plan, which explains all of your appointments and offers the options to spread the payments for your dental care
- Time and space to recover from the sedation or treatment before you leave our clinic
- Broad range of expert services that cover most of your dental needs under one roof
When you’re ready to talk about treatment the first step is to come in for a new patient consultation.
This first appointment:
- Lasts for an hour but does not involve treatment, so you get a chance to get used to the calm and soothing environment of our clinic
- Gives you and the dentist time to discuss the fears and concerns that have prevented you from seeking treatment
- Puts you in control of your dental care
- Gives the dentist a chance to gently examine your mouth and teeth and give you a full report on your oral health
- Lets you discuss treatment options and ask questions
- Lets you plan ahead to break your treatment down into stages
- Lets you plan to ahead to spread the cost of your treatment
- Lets you plan ahead by discussing sedation and our comfort menu
If your fear is preventing you from accessing the care you need, our resident sedation expert will ensure that your visit to our clinic is a pleasant and stress-free experience.
Using only safe and proven techniques, you will be offered mild sedative drugs, which work rapidly to leave you feeling drowsy, comfortable and unaware of your treatment. Your state of sedation is carefully maintained and monitored throughout the entire treatment.
If you are undergoing more intense or lengthy treatments, we can also offer IV sedation. This sedation also leaves you comfortable and unaware of your treatment, but you remain conscious and breathe on your own, unlike a general anaesthetic administered in a hospital.

If I opt for sedation will I feel any pain?
You will feel almost nothing, we even numb the back of your hand before inserting the IV.
If I opt for sedation will someone need to accompany me?
Yes, due to the sedative effects of the medication, you will need an adult to drive you to our clinic and escort you home again
If I opt for sedation will I be totally relaxed?
Yes. We’ll administer the correct dose of sedation, so that you’ll be drowsy and comfortable throughout your treatment.
How can I maintain my oral health after treatment?
With your treatment underway your dentist and hygienist can offer some advice on diet and homecare that will help you maintain your own oral health. Good brushing and flossing, with the right toothpaste and an electric brush can really help to prevent further problems and our hygienists are more than happy to help you ‘brush-up’ your skills.
Will I have to continue seeing a dentist after my treatment is completed?
Early detection is vital for keeping future treatment to a minimum, so booking regular check-ups and hygiene appointments can help prevent major problems from arising in the future.
Why is it so important to conquer my fears and have dental treatment?
Recent research has identified clear links between gum disease and a host of other medical problems, including heart disease, strokes, dementia and diabetes, so conquering your fears and booking much needed dental treatment could be one of the best decisions you make.
