As reported in the May/June issue of Oral Health, studies have found that a more positive attitude about dental health during pregnancy could help reduce oral health problems. One study into dental health during pregnancy found that pregnant women had more tooth decay and oral health problems than non-pregnant comparisons. This could be partly explained by increased frequency of nausea during early pregnancy.
The second study found that although dental health problems were common in pregnancy, women experienced less problems if they had a more positive attitude. The study also found that regular dental check-ups could significantly reduce oral health problems during pregnancy.
