Cathleen, Hugh and Sarah: Cathleen and Sarah are general and family dentists and Hugh is one of the dental implant dentists at Elmsleigh House, experienced and dedicated to ensuring early signs of mouth cancer are detected.
November 2015 is Mouth Cancer Action Month, a campaign run by the British Dental Health Foundation to raise awareness of mouth cancer and make a difference by saving thousands of lives through early detection and prevention.
In the UK more than 6700 people were diagnosed with mouth cancer last year. It takes the lives of more than 2000 people each year, which is more than testicular cancer and cervical cancer combined.
Aims of Mouth Cancer Action Month
• To get more mouth cancers diagnosed at an early stage • Increasing education about the risk factors and how to live healthier lifestyles • Knowing the signs and symptoms of mouth cancer so we can take action • Encouraging discussion about mouth cancer with our dental professionals • Reducing our risk and lowering the number of lives that mouth cancer effects.
The campaign is all about taking action! Do not leave an ulcer unattended for more than 3 weeks Do not ignore any unusual lumps or swellings, or red and white patches in your mouth. Early detection could save your life!
