Cosmetic bonding and shaping for symmetry

May 28, 2021

Mrs J was looking to improve her teeth with composite bonding, and found Elmsleigh House in a search online. She saw Cathleen Perrin for a 30-minute cosmetic dental consultation to discuss her options.

Mrs J had had orthodontic treatment elsewhere in the past to straighten her teeth, but without retention her teeth had moved; she was also biting through her current retainers, which were very thin.

Although the best option would be to realign Mrs J’s teeth, she didn’t want to pursue this and wanted composite bonding to improve their appearance. However, she had been told that this would not be possible due to her grinding her teeth.

Cathleen reassured Mrs J that she would be suitable for cosmetic bonding, but she would need to wear a stronger retainer/mouthguard to protect her teeth from grinding, and she would do the treatment gradually to ensure the bonding did not chip. Cathleen first wanted her to have a thorough dental check up with her dentist and a professional clean with her hygienist to ensure her mouth was healthy before returning to Cathleen for this optional cosmetic treatment.

Mrs J was also whitening her teeth, so Cathleen requested that once she achieved the colour she was happy with, she then stop whitening 2 weeks before the cosmetic bonding appointment so she could colour match the composite bonding to her brighter teeth.

Cathleen used hard-wearing composite bonding material to edge bond Mrs J’s upper front teeth where they were worn. She was also able to cosmetically trim and contour the other teeth to obtain a better symmetry to her smile.

Cathleen also took impressions of Mrs J’s teeth, which were sent to the laboratory to make double-thickness retainers due to her teeth grinding. These could be worn to hold her teeth into position and prevent further relapse, as well as act as a mouthguard to protect her teeth and the composite bonding from the effects of grinding.

Mrs J is so delighted with her smile, she left a Facebook and 5* Google review online to share her experience with others:

“I wanted to take the time to post a review, as I have been so impressed with Elmsleigh House Dental service, everyone has been so helpful and professional, I would recommend them to anyone!!

Sometimes it’s hard to find a dentist you feel comfortable with, but Cathleen put me at ease straight away with her warm and welcoming disposition. I came to her wanting composite bonding and I have to say, she achieved beyond what I thought was possible!! I look like I have a whole new smile, and that’s just from a few small changes.

Anyone wanting composite bonding done to perfect their smile, I would recommend Cathleen – you won’t be disappointed!!!”
