What are dental implants?
Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Made from titanium, they are placed in direct contact with your jaw bone in a minor surgical procedure, carried out here in the comfort of our modern Farnham clinic. One implant and a crown can be used to replace a single missing tooth, whilst a series of implants and bridges or dentures can replace some or all of your natural teeth.
Surgery? Does it hurt?
No. At our Farnham dental clinic we can place dental implants under either local anaesthetic or sedation. Because of the intricate planning that goes on prior to implant placement, the actual procedure is fairly simple from a patient’s perspective.
The majority of patients at our Farnham clinic only need local anaesthetic for this procedure, but if you are at all nervous or anxious about dental treatment, we offer a range of sedation options.
Can I have my new teeth right away?
This will depend on your individual circumstances. To maximise your implants’ chances of success, the process of osseointegration needs to take place. This involves your jaw bone fusing with the titanium implant to provide exceptional support for your new teeth.
In appropriate circumstances we can place “immediate teeth” at our Farnham clinic. This means preparatory work, dental implant placement, the creation and fitting of a temporary bridge or crown all happens on the same day. Permanent new teeth will be attached once osseointegration is complete.
Can dental implants end my denture woes?
Yes. By either stabilising your dentures with dental implants, or fixing a full-arch dental bridge to your implants, you can once again enjoy the benefits of a healthy jaw of teeth.
