Mrs W came to Elmsleigh House because she had been assaulted in her twenties, and over time had lost more back chewing teeth. This meant she now only had her upper six front teeth for eating, which is why they were becoming a little loose.
Mrs W saw Hugh Cowley from the dental implant team for a thorough dental examination and consultation. Hugh determined he would replace Mrs W's missing molar teeth with two dental implants on each side, holding two three-tooth bridges in place. This would replace three missing teeth on each side with fixed teeth, which would improve the appearance of her smile, support the gum and bone, stabilise her bite and make eating easier. She would not need a removable denture or have visible gaps.
Dental implants are essentially 'bionic roots', where small titanium screws are placed and integrate with the jawbone, actively preventing bone loss.
Two implants were placed on each side, and after healing provided a stable anchor for two three-tooth bridges. Each three-tooth bridge was made to look, fit and function like Mrs W's natural teeth. They were first trialled in place, and as Mrs W was happy with their appearance, fit and feel in her mouth, were definitively fitted into place.
