Happy Shrove Tuesday!

February 28, 2017

Hi to all on this sunny Shrove Tuesday (also known in Commonwealth countries as Pancake Tuesday or Pancake day)! This is the Tuesday in February or March immediately preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent), which is celebrated in some countries by consuming pancakes. In other countries, especially where it is called Mardi Gras (French for ‘fat Tuesday’), this is a carnival day and the last night of eating richer foods before the fasting period of Lent begins, which lasts for 40 days.

Some people may avoid sugar during Lent, which is fantastic for your teeth as sugar has been identified as a major factor in dental decay! For everyone though, it is best to reduce sugar in your diet and minimise sugary food and drinks to meal times only. Always brush your teeth thoroughly at least twice a day for 2 minutes with a toothpaste containing at least 1450ppm fluoride to protect teeth from cavities and make teeth stronger.
