Dentistry magazine has published its list of the top 50 influencers in the dental profession for 2024 — people who have made the biggest difference in shaping the profession over the past year.
Professor Bill Sharpling, Associate Dean at King’s College London, Director of the London Dental Education Centre, and our dentures expert at Elmsleigh House has been selected for inclusion in this list of opinion leaders, mentors and educators in dentistry. The whole team at Elmsleigh House are very proud of Bill’s achievement and well-deserved recognition.
These top 50 influencers characterise the innovation, drive, passion and conviction that define dentistry in 2024, and Bill is certainly a worthy inclusion. This is in addition to Bill being listed in Dentistry’s 2023 Laboratory’s Leading 20, where he is recognised for his influence in driving dental technology forward.
Bill works tirelessly across all his roles, lecturing and teaching overseas and in the UK as well as providing bespoke denture solutions at Elmsleigh House.
You can book a denture consultation with Bill on a Monday at Elmsleigh House, where he will assess and design a bespoke denture solution for you; speak to the Welcome Team on 01252 713797 or our Patient Coordinator, Georgie Price, on 01252 595503. Bill welcomes referrals from other dentists.
Angel aligners offer advanced technology to correct an overbite, underbite, overcrowded teeth, widely spaced teeth or misaligned teeth for children, teens and adults.
Our award-winning Specialist orthodontist, Kostas Spathoulas, uses cutting-edge 3D technology to scan and plan your Angel aligner treatment; the scans and plans are sent to the laboratory to make your bespoke set of Angel aligners with integrated buttons and attachments if needed for precise tooth movement.
The Angel Aligner KiD offers a range of early orthodontic solutions for young children. Early prevention maintains the normal arch form, guides the normal eruption of permanent teeth and correct jaw growth, and corrects habits and incorrect function in young children. The Angel Classic offers alignment solutions for older children and adults. Both options use masterControl S technology that provides accurate tooth movement and better comfort.
Angel aligners can also incorporate innovative angelButtons into their design at different stages. This enables the flexible placement of elastics using AI-based positioning, which apply specific force to move teeth precisely into position.
Kostas offers a free orthodontic consultation (with a £50 refundable deposit), where he will assess and scan to determine your bespoke Angel Aligner treatment plan.

Dentistry magazine has published an article on combatting children’s sugar intake, and our dentist Sarah Mack is a contributor to the discussion.
The article discussed findings of a study that children’s sugar intake was reduced by almost a half in the year following the ‘Sugar tax’ implemented in 2018. This tax requires manufacturers of drinks containing over 5g of sugar per 100ml to pay a Soft Drinks Industry Levy. However, most dentists believe that the levy does not go far enough, especially as over a fifth of 5-year-olds in England have dental decay.
Alongside extending the tax to include fruit juices, cereals, energy drinks, infant formula and other sugary products, Sarah states that:
“It is important to consider that dietary free sugars are just one element that contributes to dental decay, and we cannot use this as a single measure of success in our attempts to reduce the overall crisis with childhood decay and obesity. Education is essential and we need to do better to use this as a free tool to promote good oral health habits for our future generations.”
It is recommended that children should brush for two-minutes with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day, with a thorough clean before bedtime; parents should supervise young children’s brushing and ensure they clean in between their teeth. Sugar should be reduced and limited to meal times, and children should eat a healthy diet with plenty of water. Regular dental check-ups will help prevent problems developing and detect issues early, enabling prompt treatment.
Sarah Mack is a general and cosmetic dentist at Elmsleigh House and founder of our Little Smiles clinic, which helps anxious children access dental care with inhalation sedation if needed; alternate Saturday appointments available.
We are so proud of Manoj Tank, our specialist in periodontics (gum health), who participated in the Eye to Eye Charity Walk with his family to raise money for Moorfields Eye Charity to help fund vital research and make a difference to the lives of people with sight loss.
A huge thank you and congratulations to our dental hygienist Adrienne Willoughby, who celebrated her 35-year work anniversary at Elmsleigh House! She was our first dental hygienist and now we have four! We would like to thank her from the whole team and her patients!
Another amazing achievement from a dental hygienist – Gillian Singh competed in the UK’s biggest 24-hour trail race, Endure24, where teams run 8km laps continuously for 24 hours, and Gillian’s team came second! Gillian continues to train for long distances.
More sporting achievements and congratulations to dental nurse Becky and dental therapist Katrina who participated in a 4-hour Combatathon at Alton Sports Centre, raising money for Dementia UK and smashing their group target! What an impressive team!
