Our Elmsleigh House team spent an evening after work last week for essential medical emergency training with John Horton, a paramedic, senior lecturer and clinical trainer, who visits each year to keep us up to date with latest guidelines and best practice.
He covered medical emergency scenarios, including early stroke awareness, severe asthma, anaphylaxis, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and how to use a defribrillator.
A defribrillator is an essential piece of equipment used to reshock a person’s heart following sudden cardiac arrest. If a defribrillator is used and effective CPR performed within 3–5 minutes of a cardiac arrest, the chance of survival increases from 6% to 74%.
