Denture care guidelines update

According to the independent dental charity, Oral Health Foundation, by 2050 there are expected to be two billion people aged 60 or over. Despite the best efforts of dentists, in older people teeth are sometimes lost as a result of gum disease, tooth decay or dental infection. No matter their age, people can replace one, several or all teeth missing with dental implants, implant-retained dentures or removable dentures.

As the demand for full or partial dentures is expected to increase, and with a lack of consistent recommendations for denture care, the Oral Health Foundation has developed global guidelines on optimal denture care for oral and general health. The guidelines are supported by best evidence and based on consensus from key international experts. They can be summarised into four key steps to keep dentures at their best:

A simple daily routine for clean dentures that promotes oral and general health, as recommended by the Oral Health Foundation. For more information visit www.dentalhealth.org
