Faster orthodontics offers a quicker way to straighten adults' front teeth, depending on the option chosen in around 3–9 months. Faster orthodontics moves adults' front teeth into position, but does not improve overbites or underbites, or move back teeth into better position. This would require Specialist orthodontic treatment with Kostas Spathoulas, who has extensive experience with Invisalign® and Spark Aligners as well as fixed brace systems. He can also align children's and teens' teeth, usually with these clear aligner systems.

Our faster orthodontic systems include Cfast® cosmetic braces and Cfast® clear aligners, provided by Cathleen Perrin, and Invisalign® Go clear aligners, provided by Sarah Mack.

Both Cathleen and Sarah offer free faster orthodontic consultations to adults (with a £50 refundable deposit) to determine if these faster systems would be suitable for you. You will receive an assessment and a written treatment plan detailing the cost and stages of your faster orthodontic treatment.

Cfast® cosmetic braces

Whether to overcome crowding or gappy teeth, protruding front teeth or gummy smiles, Cfast cosmetic braces substantially reduce the length of treatment time normally associated with orthodontics, while remaining kind and safe to your teeth. Cathleen Perrin is our Cfast provider, offering this faster system to adults. Cfast cosmetic braces are fixed onto your teeth and joined with a nickel-titanium wire, exerting gentle pressure to move the front four to six teeth discreetly and efficiently into position, usually in around 6–9 months.

In our short video, Cathleen used Cfast cosmetic braces to straighten Emily's teeth in just 6 months, and she is delighted!

Cfast® clear aligners

Cathleen Perrin also offers Cfast clear aligners, which fit over your teeth and apply gentle forces to gradually move the teeth into position. You wear each aligner for around 10 days until it becomes passive, before moving on to the next aligner in the series. You will be reviewed regularly if needed, and the next set of aligners fitted or impressions taken to continue treatment. The aligners need to be worn at all times, but should be removed for eating and drinking anything other than water and for cleaning your teeth; they also should be removed for swimming.

INVISALIGN GO

Sarah Mack offers Invisalign Go to adults for faster orthodontic alignment in approximately 3–9 months. The aim is not to provide you with a perfect smile or bite, but to obtain a significantly improved alignment of your front six or sometimes twelve teeth.

Advanced iTero Element scanning technology is used to plan and create your series of clear aligners to predictably move your teeth into position. Invisalign aligners are made from a lightweight, strong, thermoplastic material, which are worn for a minimum of 20–22 hours a day. Treatment involves a series of removable aligners (maximum 14) that fit over your teeth and apply gentle forces to gradually move teeth into position. You wear each aligner for around 7–10 days (until it becomes passive), before moving on to the next aligner in the series. You will be reviewed regularly if needed, and the next set of aligners fitted or impressions taken to continue treatment. The aligners need to be worn at all times, but should be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, and for swimming.

During faster orthodontic treatment

During your treatment you should keep up your regular dental check-ups with your usual dentist. We will show you how to keep your braces or aligners clean, and review how to clean your teeth. We recommend at least one professional clean with our hygienist during your treatment, as oral hygiene must be kept to a very high standard; poor oral hygiene will delay treatment and compromise the health of your teeth. Our hygienist will show how best to keep your mouth healthy during faster orthodontic treatment.

End of treatment – long-term retention

With all orthodontic treatments, long-term retention will be required to help prevent relapse of the newly aligned teeth, and this is even more important for faster anterior alignment orthodontics. We recommend both a bonded fixed retainer and a clear, plastic removable retainer for night-time use; this will ensure your teeth remain in their newly aligned position.

Teeth reshaping (interproximal reduction)

IPR teeth

Interproximal reduction (IPR), or enamel reshaping, may be needed where there isn't sufficient space to move the teeth into the required position.

It may be that you have black triangles where the teeth are touching or the teeth are too close together and there is not enough space to allow for orthodontic movement.

Interproximal reduction is a painless and gentle procedure using a file, disc or bur to reshape the enamel, creating space for the teeth to be moved into, as per your bespoke orthodontic treatment plan.

Some frequently asked questions:

Does it IPR hurt? No, it is a painless procedure.

Will my teeth be painful? No, although some people may experience some sensitivity to hot or cold food and drinks, this will return to normal within a few days.

How long does IPR take? It only takes a few minutes to gently reshape your enamel.

Are my teeth more likely to decay? No, only a minimal amount of enamel is removed, leaving plenty to protect your teeth.

Will it give me gum disease? No, it does not make your teeth more at risk of gum disease. You should continue to brush your teeth well during orthodontic treatment.
