School talk on dental hygiene
Children aged 3-4 at Christchurch Preschool, Church Crookham, recently enjoyed an informative morning when hygienist Gill went to give an oral health education talk. She talked about the roles of all who work in a dental practice, and what to expect during a dental check-up and hygienist visit.
Gill used her computer presentation to talk about plaque and tooth decay and how to prevent it. She brought examples of food and drink high in sugar, and the children were amazed counting how many teaspoons of sugar could be found in each! She also showed examples of healthy food and drink that are good for teeth.
She brought in lots of models and toothbrushes to show the children how to brush their teeth properly, and they really enjoyed being hands-on!
They all went home with a goodie bag containing the correct toothbrush for their age, toothpaste, two-minute timer and disclosing tablets that colour plaque pink so it can be easily seen when brushing! All the children and Gill really enjoyed their morning together, and the children took home all they need to keep their teeth healthy!
