At Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, we understand that starting clear aligner treatment can feel like a big step. Whether you’re considering treatment for yourself or your child or teenager, clear aligners such as Spark offer a discreet, comfortable and highly effective solution to straighten teeth without the hassle of traditional braces.
Here are six key things to expect when you begin your Spark Aligner journey at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham:
Every smile is unique, and so is your treatment. At your first consultation, we will discuss your goals and create a personalised plan. Using digital scans, we map your teeth and design a step-by-step journey to your new smile. The Spark Aligner system uses 3D software to track changes, and aligners may include attachments or features like bite ramps to guide movement precisely.
Your aligners should be worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day, including during sleep. You should only remove them to eat, drink, brush your teeth or clean your aligners. Spark Aligners are designed for comfort, with smooth scalloped edges that make daily wear easy. Carry your aligner case with you to protect them on the go.
Unlike fixed braces, you can eat and drink what you like—just take your aligners out first. Spark Aligners resist staining better than other brands thanks to TruGEN™ material, so there’s no need to avoid tea, coffee or wine. Just remember to brush and clean your aligners regularly.
You should clean your aligners daily. You can brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush (not the one you use to brush your teeth daily) and gentle, clear liquid soap to remove any debris or food particles that have accumulated during the day. Rinse thoroughly in warm water after brushing. You can also purchase Retainer Brite tablets from the Welcome team at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, which are individually foil-sealed and suitable for cleaning clear aligners, removable retainers and whitening trays. You drop one tablet into warm tap water and soak your aligner tray for 15 minutes, then rinse it thoroughly with warm water. Do NOT use any solutions containing bleach or chlorine or abrasive toothpaste, and never subject your aligners to heat. Cleaning your aligners daily keeps your appliances clean and hygienic and your mouth fresh.
You’ll typically change to a new set of aligners every 1–2 weeks. While you may feel slight discomfort at first, it’s a sign your aligners are working! You may be given small plastic tubes called ‘chewies’, which you can use to bite on several times a day to close any air bubbles between your aligners and teeth. These are useful to improve the fit of your aligners, especially when adjusting to a new set of aligners in the series.
Most patients are reviewed every 8–10 weeks, when you’ll receive new sets and progress checks. Kostas may add attachments or buttons to your teeth if needed at any time during treatment — these help the aligners apply targeted pressure for specific movements. Some may be fitted discreetly behind the teeth.
At the end of your Spark Aligner treatment at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, you can expect a beautifully straight, healthy smile. Clear aligners treat crowding, gaps, crossbites and more—all under the expert care of our award-winning Specialist orthodontist, Kostas Spathoulas.
