It’s all about the brace

You may think that the idea of straightening teeth using braces was probably first introduced in America the 1950s. But the truth is, there is archaeological evidence that people have been trying to correct crooked teeth and poor jaw alignment for at least 2000 years!

Dentures, no laughing matter

When someone mentions dentures, what images spring to mind? Your grandparents’ teeth in a glass of water or comedy clockwork toys perhaps? However, if you have lost some or all of your teeth, you will probably agree that tooth loss is no laughing matter. Having a well-made set of dentures can make a major difference to how you feel. You may be surprised to know that dentures have been in use for far longer than you might imagine, after all tooth decay and oral health problems have affected people since ancient times.

Orthodontics - Are Specialist Orthodontists Necessary?

You may take good care of your teeth, get regular check-ups with your dentist, and still experience complicated dental issues. A dentist may not be able to address all your needs, and this is when it may become necessary to see an orthodontist. An orthodontist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats problems that lead to or cause dental and facial complications. Treating these issues can offer many physical and mental benefits including improved self-confidence, enhanced breathing and speech, and a better bite and ability to chew.

10 Facts you need to know about Teeth Whitening

A beautiful white smile is important to many people, but exposure to different foods will gradually stain your teeth over time. There are many foods that can affect the colour of your teeth, including coffee, smoking, soda and wine. However, it is possible to restore your teeth's natural whiteness with teeth whitening.

How can cosmetic dentistry give you the smile of your dreams?

For many people in Farnham, cosmetic dentistry is helping them to look better and feel happier about the appearance of their teeth. Even if your teeth are strong and healthy, you may feel that their appearance could be improved. In some circumstances, the appearance of your teeth can affect your life by making you feel less confident about smiling or talking. There are a number of ways that the overall appearance of your teeth can be improved using a range of cosmetic dental procedures. Here at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, cosmetic dentistry is giving our patients something to smile about.

The first and simplest step to improve your smile if your teeth have become discoloured may be to have your teeth whitened. Teeth naturally become discoloured over time, especially if you smoke or regularly drink tea, coffee, red wine or carbonated drinks with caffeine in them. Here at our practice in Farnham, we use a system of custom-made trays and carbamide peroxide gel, which you use at home until you achieve your desired level of whiteness.

In certain cases, your teeth may have been affected by the use of certain prescription medication. Sadly, teeth whitening cannot be used to resolve this. Existing white fillings, crowns or veneers will also remain unchanged by the bleaching process.

Reshaping and realigning with cosmetic bonding

If your teeth are slightly uneven or have small gaps, but you prefer not to have braces, we can improve the shape and spacing using cosmetic bonding to make your teeth look even and well-spaced. This minimally invasive treatment protects the structure of your teeth. If you have more serious damage or your teeth are very badly discoloured or have noticeable flaws, these can be restored using either porcelain crowns or veneers.

These treatments are most suited to teeth that are already damaged, as it is necessary to remove a certain amount of enamel or parts of the tooth to fit the veneers or crown. Whatever your cosmetic dental problems are, there will be a solution, so make an appointment with us to find out more about cosmetic dentistry in Farnham.

Dont let fear stand in your way

Are you scared of the dentist? If so, you are one of about 2.5 million people in the UK who are anxious about visiting the dentist. This is a recognised phobia. At Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic we take it very seriously.

Dental implants in Farnham to restore missing teeth involves minor oral surgery. The nature of this surgery, which is in the jawbone where there are fewer nerve endings than in the teeth, means that you really only need a local anaesthetic to numb the area. Nonetheless, many people get quite anxious about the idea of dental implant surgery. Thats why we are very willing to offer sedation so that you can fully relax during treatment. In fact, there has never been a patient we have been unable to treat because of their anxiety! Our implant dentists are experienced and reassuring, and our  range of sedation options leave you comfortable and unaware of treatment when you have dental implants in Farnham.

We have different sedation techniques to choose from:

Gas and air

We fit a mask over your nose and you breathe in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, a bit like that given to mothers during childbirth. It numbs pain and induces a pleasurable feeling before sleepiness sets in. It starts to work within a minute or two and stops just as quickly, with no hangover effect.

Intravenous sedation

This sedation goes straight into your bloodstream, and will almost undoubtedly send you to sleep, although, as with the others, you can be roused should the dentist need to communicate with you. It works almost immediately, but it does take a while to wear off.

As you can see, with different options to combat anxiety, there is no need to let your fear be the reason not to allow dental implants in Farnham to transform your life for the better. Come in for a consultation to find out more.
