At Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, we understand these fears and are committed to providing a comfortable, less stressful environment for our patients. ##### Understanding Dental Anxiety Dental anxiety can stem from various factors, including: - **Past negative experiences**: Previous uncomfortable or painful dental visits can lead to apprehension. - **Fear of pain**: Anticipation of discomfort during procedures. - **Loss of control**: Feeling helpless or not in control during treatment. - **Embarrassment**: Concerns about oral health or being judged. Recognising these triggers allows us to tailor our approach to each patient's needs. ##### Dental Anxiety management At Elmsleigh House, we employ a combination of techniques to alleviate anxiety and ensure a positive dental experience: ###### 1. Open Communication We encourage patients to discuss their fears and concerns openly. Understanding your apprehensions enables us to adjust our approach and provide reassurance throughout your visit. ###### 2. Personalised care Plans Each patient is unique, and so are their needs. We develop individualised care plans that consider your comfort levels, allowing for breaks during procedures and using calming techniques as needed. ###### 3. Relaxation Techniques Incorporating relaxation methods such as calm breathing exercises or holding onto 'stressballs' can help reduce tension. We guide patients through these techniques to promote a sense of calm before and during treatment. ###### 4. Distraction Methods To divert attention from the procedure, you can request specific music to listen to during treatment. Our clinicians will also talk calmly to you throughout your treatment, putting you at ease. These distractions can significantly reduce anxiety levels. ###### 5. Dental sedation in farnham For patients with severe anxiety, we provide sedation options including [inhalation sedation ('gas and air') and intravenous sedation](https://www.elmsleighhouse.co.uk/dental-sedation-farnham) to help you relax while remaining conscious and responsive. Creating a Calming Environment Our clinic is designed to foster a soothing atmosphere: - **Comfortable waiting area**: Relaxing space offering tea, coffee and chilled water, magazines and iPads. - **Friendly staff**: Our team is trained to be empathetic and supportive, ensuring you feel welcomed and cared for. - **Flexible scheduling**: We offer appointment times that accommodate your schedule, reducing stress related to time constraints. ![5* Google review for general dental care and specialist orthodontist treatment at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic](https://www.elmsleighhouse.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Pt%20Testimonials/Mrs%20R%20KS%20OOD%205%20Google%20review.jpg?width=350&height=350&name=Mrs%20R%20KS%20OOD%205%20Google%20review.jpg)![5* Google review following dental implant surgery by Hugh Cowley at Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic in Farnham, Surrey](https://www.elmsleighhouse.co.uk/hs-fs/hubfs/Pt%20Testimonials/Mrs%20B%20HC%20implant%205%20Google%20review.jpg?width=285&height=356&name=Mrs%20B%20HC%20implant%205%20Google%20review.jpg) ##### Empowering You Through Education Knowledge can alleviate fear.
