Miss W came to Elmsleigh House because she was unhappy with her bulky veneers that did not match the colour of her natural teeth. Her upper two front teeth had been traumatised in an accident as a child and these had been root treated and veneers placed over the years, but they chipped alot and needed to be replaced.
Miss W saw Cathleen Perrin for an initial cosmetic consultation, who performed a thorough assessment. She determined that following root canal treatment on both front teeth, one had darkened considerably and the porcelain veneers that had been placed were unable to mask the darkness and did not blend with her other teeth. Additionally, they were too thick, which made them prominent in her smile and more noticeable.
The plan agreed was to improve the alignment of Miss W’s teeth, whiten her teeth and replace the veneers with a better quality ceramic material.
Cathleen referred Miss W to Kostas Spathoulas, our Specialist orthodontist, for a consultation. Kostas used 3D technology to scan her teeth and determine how a series of Invisalign clear aligners could alleviate crowding on both her upper and lower front teeth and correct her increased overbite. Miss W could see the finished result on screen.
The scans were sent to the laboratory to make Miss W’s set of Invisalign aligners. She wore each set of aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day for up to two weeks (until passive) before moving on to the next set in the series until her teeth were aligned; retainers held them in position.
Miss W then saw Cathleen to brighten her teeth with Zoom whitening gel placed in her mouth trays and worn for 2-3 hours a day (or overnight) until she achieved the lighter shade desired. Then Cathleen referred her to Kit Spears to plan replacing the bulky veneers.
Kit used Digital Smile Design to plan detailed treatment. He used digital measurements to make wax models to show the veneer size and shape required. As upper central incisors are usually a little longer, he removed the bulky veneers and performed minor gum contouring to reshape and reposition the gum a little higher; temporary veneers were placed while the laboratory made the bespoke veneers in high-quality porcelain to look like and match Miss W’s natural teeth.
Miss W returned two weeks later for the new veneers to be fitted.
Kit ensured they were both happy with their appearance and fit before definitively bonding them into place.
Miss W was delighted with their shape and colour, which looked more natural. As her teeth had been aligned and her bite corrected, this would help prevent the new veneers from chipping.
Miss W was happy with the alignment, colour and appearance of her teeth, and was returned back to her referring dentist for her regular dental care.
