Mrs C came to Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic because she had discomfort. Kit Spears performed a thorough assessment and determined that her upper right first molar had a crack in one of the roots and a low-grade infection. It could not be saved, and needed to be removed.
A cone beam CT (CBCT) scan showed that the infection had affected the surrounding bone and was close to the maxillary sinus, which meant a dental implant could not be placed at the same time as removing the tooth. The best option was to remove the tooth and perform ridge preservation at the same time. This is where a bone graft is placed into the extraction socket, which helps preserve the bone and gum better than if the tooth were removed without any graft placement.
The tooth was extracted, a bone graft placed and the socket covered over with a non-dissolving membrane and stitches to secure it. After four weeks, Mrs C returned to have the stitches and membrane removed.
After four months of healing, Mrs C returned for another CBCT scan to check the bone; as this had successfully healed, Kit placed a titanium Osseotite dental implant into the jawbone under local anaesthesia, and was able to place a healing cap attached to the implant at the same time.
A healing period of four months allowed the bone and gum to fully heal before the next stage of treatment.
Mrs C returned for the construction and fitting of a high-quality cosmetic implant crown to be made over a four-to-six week period. Her crown was made to match the colour, lustre and appearance of her natural teeth and was temporarily fixed for Mrs C to see. As she was delighted with its appearance, fit and feel, it was definitively fixed into place.
Several months later, Mrs C returned as she had broken off a large part of a filling in her opposing lower molar tooth. The tooth was found to be fractured and needed to be removed. Kit was able to place a titanium Osseotite dental implant in the position of the extracted tooth under local anaesthetic and a titanium healing cap attached. In the same way as before, a period of time was allowed for healing.
Mrs C returned for Kit to make another implant crown made to match her other teeth and secured in place. As she was happy with the fit and appearance, it was definitively fitted.
Mrs C is was so delighted with her treatment, she left a 5* Google review!
