Don't be afraid of the chair!

April 26, 2019

Research has shown that a third of people in the UK fear the dentist's chair, and 79% are putting off getting dental advice. Shockingly, only 59% of children visited a dentist last year, and only half the adult population has been to a dentist in the past 2 years!

Our Farnham dentists can help overcome dental fears

The above shows shocking statistics, especially considering 15,000 children had tooth extractions last year, with nearly 13,000 being a result of tooth decay; this could have been avoided with regular dental check-ups and good oral healthcare at home.

Cathal Hayes, Managing Director of the Centre for Dentistry, said: "Dental anxiety is a real issue for many people – a recent survey we conducted found that fear was the key reason why people avoided the dentist. Luckily, dentistry has changed greatly in the past 10-15 years. This means that dental anxiety is reducing and dentists work hard to ensure a positive experience for patients."

At Elmsleigh House Dental Clinic, we understand that some people are especially nervous of dental treatment. Our Farnham dentists will take time to listen to your concerns and do all we can to put you at ease. Dental care has progressed a long way, and it is now possible to carry out dental work in a comfortable and painless way.

Modern anaesthetic gels rubbed into the gum, along with new local anaesthetic techniques, can make injections painless. For especially nervous or dental-phobic patients we offer sedation options that can make the whole dental experience less stressful.
