What are dental implants?

If you have a missing tooth or teeth, your dentist may recommend dental implants instead of conventional dentures and bridges. Dental implants are small titanium, screw-shaped posts that are surgically placed into your jawbone in order to support a replacement tooth (or teeth). Because they have the unique ability to fuse into the jawbone, dental implants are strong and sturdy and act as the replacement root of a missing tooth.
